Burt Dillon’s Shad Fly- Chesapeake Bay Shad Fly

This shad fly is part of The Pfeiffer Collection.

Burt Dillon’s Shad Fly, also called the Chesapeake Bay Shad Fly was created in 1939 and was possibly the first fly ever created to specifically target Hickory Shad in the area. This is a very easy fly to tie up, and can be tied in several color combinations to match what the shad like on your local water. For me, an orange wing over a white body is the fly of choice.

Burt Dillon’s Shad Fly Pattern:

Hook: Size 6-10
Thread: White 6/0 Uni-thread
Tail: Golden Pheasant Tippet
Body: White Chenille
