Shad Fly

This shad fly is part of The Pfeiffer Collection.

While this fly might not have a very creative name, it is a great looking fly. It is similar to the Hayden Shad Fly but the duck quill tail and chenille head set it apart. The fact that it rides hook tip up makes it a good candidate for shad fishing on the St. Johns River. However, I do not have enough experience with this fly on the water to call it a St. Johns River Favorite. I will try to change that during the 2015/2016 run.

Shad Fly Pattern:

Hook: Size 6 (I chose 2x long)
Thread: Red Danville’s Flat Waxed Nylon
Tail: Paired Red Duck Quill
Body: Medium Oval Silver Tinsel
Hackle: White, tied sparsely
Head: Red Chenille
Eyes: Gold Hourglass
